GIPS Standards Conference and Workshops
The GIPS Standards Annual Conference is scheduled for 25-26 September 2008 in Boston. Last year’s conference sold out and space is limited, so register early. This year’s conference will cover key topics in the performance measurement industry as well as a preview and implications of the proposed changes to the Standards.

A GIPS Standards Interactive Workshop precedes the annual conference and is scheduled for 24 September 2008 in Boston. The workshop will help participants master the requirements of the GIPS standards, including composite construction, performance calculation, and the creation of a compliant presentation. For complete details, please visit our website.

GIPS 2010 Key Issues Summary
At its recent meeting in Amsterdam, the GIPS Executive Committee gave indications of some of the changes that will be proposed to the GIPS standards. Please visit the GIPS website for a summary of these key changes. Please note that these are not the only changes that will be proposed and more information will be provided as the review process is completed.

Current Volunteer Opportunities
Currently, all of the GIPS subcommittees are seeking volunteers. Subcommittee lists and descriptions are available on the GIPS website.

E-mail standards@cfainstitute.org to volunteer for any of these important committees or to obtain more information. The application deadline is 1 June 2008.

Status of the Leverage and Derivatives Guidance Statement

The Leverage and Derivatives Guidance Statement has been circulated for public comment twice. Based on the responses received during those reviews and other considerations, the Guidance Statement will not be finalized. Instead, certain elements have been extracted and issued as questions and answers on the GIPS Q&A database, particularly those sections dealing with calculation methodologies.  Additional issues will be addressed by the Alternative Investment Strategies working group and Risk working group, and further guidance will be forthcoming.
