Four Additional Updated Guidance Statements
Released!
The GIPS Executive Committee has updated the existing Real
Estate, Private Equity, Wrap Fee/SMA Portfolios, and Verification
Guidance Statements to bring the Guidance Statements
current to reflect the 2010 edition of the GIPS standards (PDF). It is
important to remember that compliance with the GIPS standards requires
that firms comply with all requirements of the GIPS standards, including
any updates, Guidance Statements, Questions & Answers (Q&As), and
clarifications published by CFA Institute and the GIPS Executive
Committee, which are available on the GIPS website (www.gipsstandards.org), as well as in the GIPS Handbook. The
Q&As that were previously at the end of each of the Guidance
Statements have been relocated to the GIPS Q&A database. In the
coming months, the
GIPS Q&A database will also be updated to reflect changes in the
2010 edition of the GIPS standards. The GIPS standards website also
includes additional resources, including red-line versions of the
Guidance Statements showing the changes between the prior and updated
Guidance Statements.
Upcoming GIPS In-Person Meetings
We are pleased to announce that the next in-person meetings
of the GIPS Executive Committee, Regional Investment Performance
Subcommittees (RIPS), and GIPS Council will be held on 24 and 25 March
2011 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Zurich, Switzerland. We encourage you
to keep up to date on the latest topics and developments with the GIPS
standards by reviewing the materials provided in advance of those
meetings. Visit the GIPS website later this week to view the
meeting materials.
Volunteer Openings
The GIPS Nominations Committee is seeking volunteers to serve
on the GIPS Executive Committee. The GIPS Executive Committee is a
nine-member committee that serves as the decision-making authority for
the development, interpretation, and promotion of the GIPS standards. The
GIPS Executive Committee is seeking nominees to serve as Chair of the
Interpretations Subcommittee that prepares clarifications of the GIPS
standards through interpretations that effectively respond to new issues
presented by the global investment industry for the GIPS Executive
Committee. Volunteers must have investment performance measurement and/or
evaluation experience, extensive and thorough knowledge of the GIPS
standards, and be able to assist in ensuring the integrity, consistency,
and applicability of the GIPS standards. E-mail
to volunteer for this important role or to obtain more information. The
application deadline is 1 April 2011.
The GIPS Real Estate Working Group (REWG) is also currently seeking
volunteers. The purpose of the REWG is to provide technical
guidance for the GIPS standards through the maintenance and development
of interpretations and guidance. Candidates will have extensive real
estate industry experience and a strong knowledge of investment
performance, including the GIPS standards. For more information or to
apply for the REWG, please e-mail
by 15 April 2011.
